50 Cent to Throw New York’s Biggest Concert?

Has 50 Cent become the face of the “new” New York Summer Jam?

Some say Hot 97 is about to get a run for their money. Buzz is currently floating the streets regarding the upcoming This Is 50 Festival, taking place at The Beach at Governors Island. The highly anticipated October 3 show is set to star a mixture of backpackers and lyrical thugs: G-Unit, Wale, Mike Poser, Kid Cudi, and special guests Jim Jones, D-Block, and Maino.
“Fif is the future and we hope that he’ll do to music festivals what he did to sports drinks–change the game,” Peter Oasis, head of the festival company, LiveNDirect, says.
Though one of the show’s sponsors is Hot 97, the festival has already been getting the tag, “The New Summer Jam.”
Recently, 50 spoke to Canadian entertainment station MuchOnDemand one rapper who won’t be at the Festival: Kanye West. The rapper chastised West for the incident at last week’s MTV Video Music Awards.
“I wish he would come take one of my awards so I can black his eye! In front of everybody,” he said, to chuckles from the audience. “You pick and choose who you feel safe doing that with…”
50 Cent’s anticipated, oft-delayed album, Before I Self Destruct is slated for release on November 17.
