RadarOnline: Tennis superstar Serena Williams was fined a record $82,500 for her foul-mouthed diatribe aimed towards a lineswoman at September’s U.S. Open, and will be on a “probationary period” through 2011, Grand Slam administrator Bill Babcock said Monday.
Babcock told the AP that Williams — whose career prize earnings top $28 million — will be suspended from the following U.S. Open, and hit with higher fines, if she has another incident during her probation.
Williams’ fine breaks the record set for a Grand Slam offense — $48,000 coughed by by tennis hothead Jeff Tarango in the 1990s.http://lukescorner.ning.com/
